Mr. Mears was born on May 19, 1941 in Miami, Fla., to Vennis and Edith Mears. He retired from Florida Power and Light Company as an electrician. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Fort White, Fla.
He is survived by his wife, Flora; two sons, Jim Mears of Thomaston, Ga., and David Faircloth of Charleston, S.C.; two daughters, Cindy Heller of Whiteville, N.C. and Cheryl Balara of Jacksonville, Fla., two sisters, Elaine Persalta of Sebring, Fla., and Brenda Howell of Ashville, N.C.; and 11 grandchildren.
A visitation was held on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, 173 SW Shiloh Street, Fort White. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church with Pastor Earl Tuten officiating. Burial followed at Shiloh Baptist Cemetery.

James Allen Little, Sr., 65, passed away unexpectedly on August 26, 2012. Mr. Little had been a longstanding resident of Newberry, Fla., since 1970, and had been in business servicing air conditioners for customers in the community for 37 years
James (Jim) Russell Gay Jr., 72, died Monday, August 20, 2012 at North Florida Regional Medical Center from injuries sustained from a fall at home. Mr. Gay was a graduate of North Carolina State University with a B.A. in Business Administration. He retired from Farm Credit Service of North Florida in 1989 as president. He attended and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Alachua.
