GAINESVILLE – The University of Florida football team has accepted an invitation to play Big 10 representative Ohio State in the TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl on Jan. 2, 2012, at EverBank Field in Jacksonville, Fla. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2 at 1 p.m. The Gators will be making their 21st-straight bowl appearance, which ranks first in the SEC and second nationally. This will also be Florida’s 18th January Bowl game since 1993, the highest total in the country, and will be the team’s ninth appearance in the Gator Bowl, which will be played for the 67th time.
This will be just the second meeting all-time between UF and the Buckeyes, as the Orange and Blue posted a 41-14 win in the Tostitos BCS National Championship Game on Jan. 8, 2007, in Glendale, Ariz., to bring home the program’s second national title. Florida is 19-19 all-time in bowls and owns a 6-2 record in the Gator Bowl, with its most recent trip to the contest a 27-10 victory over NC State on Dec. 31, 1992.
